Revised Engine Lineup for the 2022 Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 Trucks
If you’re excited for the upcoming 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 redesigns, it turns out that you’ll have more than cosmetic upgrades to anticipate. According to Pickup Truck + SUV Talk’s Erica Mueller, both models get a revised engine lineup.
General Motors is dropping two popular engine choices for the 2022 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500: the naturally aspirated 4.3-liter V6 and the 5.3-liter. That news is a bit surprising considering how popular these two powertrain options have been with consumers.
But don’t be too bummed — the new standard engine option for these models’ lower trims packs a punch while optimizing efficiency. The 2.7-liter turbo engine pairs with an eight-speed transmission to generate 310 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque. That’s 25 more horsepower and 42 more lb-ft of torque than the 4.3-liter V6 mill.
The 5.3-liter V8 will still be available, but only with Dynamic Fuel Management technology. Per Mueller, this revision promises to improve the engine’s efficiency by giving it the capacity to activate and deactivate cylinders to conserve power and fuel.
Lastly, the brand will continue to offer the 6.2-liter V8 engine for both trucks. Delivering 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, this engine will appease those who want a bit more potency in their daily drives.
